PGDM & MMS HR students from GNIMS had an Industrial Visit at Central Railway Carriage Workshop, Matunga on 17th February 2015. The visit was all about understanding the challenges faced in managing Employee Relations, studying the working conditions, technical difficulties & problems faced by Human Resource Department in Central Railways. The visit started with a brief discussion on Central Railways & how each department functions and managed, followed by question & answer round. Later, the students were taken through a model train coach to help them understand how the basic structure of a railway coach is built and assembled. The students were taken through the major areas of the 35 acre workshop to help them observe the extreme working conditions of the railway employees. The students felt it was in all a great learning experience for all them full of excitement & wanting to understand more. A certificate of appreciation from GNIMS was awarded to the workshop for their continued support and co-operation to the institute.
A Guest Lecture for the subject of ‘Organization Development (OD)’ was organized for Second Year MMS and PGDM – HR and Third Year MHRDM Sem-V students on Saturday, 11th October, 2014.
Ms. Nadia Naik (Assistant Manager -- Organization Development and Strategy, Neterwala Corporate and Consulting Services) was invited as the guest speaker.

A visit to the Central Railway Workshop was organized for the MMS and PGDM – HR specialization students on Saturday, 22nd February 2014. This visit helped the students get an insight into the practical application of industry working, labour welfare and working conditions. On behalf of GNIMS we are thankful for the valuable time spent by the Central Railway Matunga Workshop staff for arranging the visit.
On 8th February, Mr. Gaurav Chopra, Regional Manager - Radio City interacted with our 1st year (MMS/PGDM) and part-time students to give a bird's eye view of Radio industry in general and Radio city in particular.
He spent time giving insights on Brand activation and talk about career opportunities in media.
The interaction ended with a question and answer session.

It was arranged by Asst. Prof.Channpreet Kaur Bhatia (Human Resource) for the Second Year MMS and PGDM – HR students.
Ms.Jharna Pandya (Senior Manager – HR, Indoco Remedies Limited) was the guest speaker for the event. Ms.Jharna is a certified OD practitioner, a practitioner for Neuro Linguistic Programming. She has been responsible for all learning and development and OD activities within her organization. The lecture began with an introduction of the students, narrowing down to the basic concepts of Compensation and Benefits. Ms.Jharna gave various insights on cash flow in and out of the company, manpower planning with respect to numbers, and how arithmetic plays an important role in Compensation and Benefits; and other HR activities. Due to her valuable lecture, HR students of GNIMS got a hold on the subject and the macro aspect regarding Compensation and Benefits became clear.

Ms.Prajakta Thacker (Senior Manager – Human Capital Management, YES Bank) was the guest speaker for the event. She is a dynamic professional with over 8 years of rich experience managing Human Resources in the corporate arena. At YES Bank,Ms. Prajakta is primarily responsible for managing the Strategic Support Group functions as a Relationship Manager who focuses, nurtures and handles the entire life cycle of the employees in these critical functions and across all levels. The guest lecture started off with an overview of basic concepts of Organization Theories Structures and Design, moving on to the practical insights, the advantages of various designs, the challenges, benchmarking, and role of HR in Mergers and Acquisitions and few cases of the same were discussed. The students of GNIMS are thankful to Ms.Prajakta for spending her valuable time and enlightening students with her experience and knowledge par excellence.
A Court Visit was organized for the students of Second Year MMS and PGDM – HR on 20th September 2013 from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. Assistant Professor, Channpreet Kaur Bhatia, faculty HR was the co-ordinator for the same. The students visited 5 courts, out of which 1 was Workmen Compensation Court, 1 Industrial Court and 3 Labour courts. The visit gave enlightening insights about the court proceedings. The students were able to witness live cases. The students also got an opportunity to interact with one of the judges, Mr.Hulsure, and the Registrar personally, wherein they offered to clarify all doubts related to Labour Legislation. SGPC’s GNIMS, the faculty and students realize and appreciate the time invested for the same by the members of the court and also special thanks to Mrs.Gupte, of Industrial Court who facilitated the arrangements.

It was arranged by Asst. Prof.Channpreet Kaur Bhatia (Human Resource) for the Second Year MMS and PGDM – HR students.
Dr.A.M.Sarma (Faculty-Tata Institute of Social Sciences) was the guest speaker for the event. He has a vast experience in the field of HR focusing on Labour Legislation and Industrial Relations. He is a recommended author for reference for the subject of Labor Legislation. He gave an insight into various case examples with practice exercise covering different Law Laws which helped the students relate theoretical knowledge with practical case examples. The session received an overwhelming feedback from the students.
GNIMS added a feather in its cap when its MDP committee of organized 1st MDP on Blue Ocean Strategy on 31st August and 1st September 2013. Mr Deepak Chhibba Senior Advisor,Mahindra Institute of Quality,M&M Ltd.was the Chief Guest of the event.
The program received a positive response from various companies and educational institutes. Representatives from Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank , Sethvala foods K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies, Bhartiya Vidyapeeth , Guru Nanak Vidyak Society and among others participated in the program.
All the facilitators of the program were trained at IIM kozikode on the subject. They stressed on the need to recrate a strategy canvas to focus on the big picture and while formulating an organization’s blue ocean strategy.
While wishing the participants, Director General of GNIMS, Dr. Ajit Singh reiterated the point that “Strategic planning should be more about collective wisdom building than top-down or bottom-up approach.” “Successful Strategies are a result of team initiative,” He concluded.
Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies witnessed a workshop on “Stress Management” on 17th August 2013 organized by Prof.Suchita.Shetty with a team from Diya Mumbai from 02:30 p.m to 05:30 p.m. This workshop was conducted based on students need to manage stress.The Second Year MMS & PGDM specializing in Human Resource have an elective paper “Stress Management”. This workshop was exactly what these students were looking out for a live depiction of how we go about handling “Stress”.
DIYA conducts Pragya Yoga, Omkar Meditation, Pranayama Techniques, Interactive discussions, Lifestyle sensitization & Relaxation techniques in its basic module for stress management. Its mission is to help individuals get rid of stress and find inner peace. Unless individuals are stressfree society by large cannot be free. DIYA promotes these same teachings at various schools, colleges, corporate, Housing societies through Prgya Yoga and meditation workshops.
The resource persons for this workshop were Diya Jateen Dave (Business Development Manager –Larsen & Toubro Industrial Automation) and Diya Dr.Somdutt Tiwari (Professional Yog Trainer).The team kickstarted the session with an interesting ‘Ice Breaker’ which the students thoroughly enjoyed. Thereafter he mentioned the asanas and the practical benefits derived from them. Body stretches & Pragya Yoga was demonstrated to students by DIYA Dr.Somdutt Tiwari. He explained how setting this techniques as a part of daily routine enhances flexibility, tones the muscles, releases tension and improves mood.
An insight in today’s life with regards to Stress was presented with alarming statistics which was an eye opener for the students. This was followed by the Pranayam (breathing exercises) which was conducted for all the participants and students gradually could feel the difference. The session concluded with the Shavasana.
A Special mention: All Second Year MMS & PGDM HR Students supported and worked hard to put up this event. The Non-Teaching staff also supported this event that made this event a grand success
Student Feedback: All the participants appreciated the session. It was an innovative method of teaching. Learning’s from the session were not only present oriented but also will also help in individual development in future. The speakers were extremely humble and could deliver the content in a way which was understood and could connect to all the participants. The participants feel that such sessions should be conducted on regular basis.

S.G.P.C.’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) organized a panel discussion on, “Employee Engagement” for the First Year and Second Year MMS and PGDM – HR students on Saturday, 16th March, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The panelists invited were as Ms. Ridhima Parab (Business Director, Fine Frescos) and Mr. Arun Singh Rathore (Training Consultant, Challenging Horizons)
The session started by both the speakers discussing their views on the subject and then having an interaction with the students on the same. Ms. Ridhima Parab related the concept of Employee Engagement to Maslow’s Need Hierarchy and ERG Theory of motivation. It was complemented with an activity for the students as well. Mr. Arun related Employee Engagement to HR policies, work environment and organizational set up. The discussion concluded by the speakers answering the queries of the students on the subject.
Ms Kanchana Manyam (Additional General Manager – Group HR at Shapoorji Pallonji & Co.Ltd.) delivered a Guest Lecture – HR at GNIMS Campus on 09th March 2013. The gap between theoretical knowledge and its application is one of the largest in the sphere of professional education. Thus, industrial visits are an integral facet of GNIMS pedagogy. GNIMS conducts periodical industrial visit to the reputed companies situated across the country. Industrial visits provide the opportunity to students to meet company officials and staff at common place and gather all possible information regarding the functioning of their organization. The speaker highlighted the various sources of finance and the four types of markets viz. the Debt market, Forex market, Commodity market and Equity market. He emphasized on the role of economy, the interest rates and its impact on the debt market. In what way has the interest rate cycle affected the Forex and Commodity market. The recent trends in the equity market were discussed and how markets would be affected on account of the upcoming finance budget.

The Marketing club started its lecture series on 1st Feburary, 2013 with a talk on Digital marketing by Ms Rashmi Putcha.
Rashmi Putcha, Co founder of Redeye Media, a full service agency with a focus on educational institutes has launched Digital Marketing and Training Institute (DMTI) of India.
The event was planned for the First Year and Second Year MMS/ PGDM Marketing and MMM students.
Ms Putcha gave a bird’s eye view of the digital marketing business. She stressed on the fact that the Digital Marketing industry is expected to become a US$ 1 Billion market by 2016. This growth will be short lived if the industry does not have quality manpower to offer and manage the requirements for the various marketers. She added that the industry will require over 15,000 new employees each year.
Industrial visits are significant activities in any educational programme for they contribute to the achievement of various essential learning outcomes. Industrial visit is a vital part of the post graduate management course curriculum. It helps to bridge the gap between classroom and the real working world. The visit also provides first-hand knowledge about the organizational structures and modes of operation in different industries. Industrial visits make students understand the subject to its core. It also gives them an idea about their job profile. Students are given projects based on learning from the visits.
Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies organized an industrial visit to Silvassa from 17th July to 19th July 2012 for the MMS and PGDM students of Sem - III. The students visited Bombay Rayon Fashions Limited, Parle-G, Voltas Limited and Sterling Generators.
