Farewell of Part Time (MFM, MMM, MHRDM) Batch 2012-2015

The students of Semester VI Part Time were given a warm send off on 12th April. The evening kick started with the co-ordinator's address. This was followed up with the Director Dr. Bigyan P Verma's motivating speech. In addition to felicitating students,Award for CRs and Best student projects were given. The evening ended on a high note when students recalled and mused over the good times spent at GNIMS.

Farewell of Part Time (MFM, MMM, MHRDM) Batch 2011-2014

A farewell programme for the Part Time students of (MFM, MMM, MHRDM) 2011-2014 Batch on 12th April 2014. The dignitaries present for the event were Dr. Ajit Singh (Director General) and Mr. Krishnan (Head Academics). The audience was addressed Dr. Ajit Singh and Mr. Krishnan. The topper students of MFM/MMM/MHRDM 2010-2013 batch that are MFM-Ms. Sanjana Parab, MMM – Ms. Supriya Puthran and MHRDM – Mr. Chitendra Shetty were also felicitated at this event. Some students from the outgoing batch were also called to share their experience of being with GNIMS as a part time student for three years. The outgoing students were presented with a gift as a token of remembrance. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Amarpreet Singh (Part Time Co-ordinator) followed by a group photograph and get together session.


Guest Lecture for MHRDM Sem-IV Students

A Guest Lecture on “Practical Aspects of Organisational Behavior, Manpower Planning and Industrial Relations” for the MHRDM Sem - IV students was organized on Sunday, 16th March 2014. Mr. Chitendra Shetty (Chief Instructor - Basic Training Centre, Carriage Workshop, Central Railway, Matunga & Alumnus of GNIMS MHRDM 2010-2013 Batch) was the speaker for the lecture. The speaker touched upon what are the essential applications of various concepts learnt in the curriculum with respect to Indian railways. The session was extremely interactive where the speaker encouraged students to ask many questions. The session received good feed back with students yearning for more of such lectures.


A guest lecture for the subject of strategic management

A guest lecture was conducted on 2nd February 2014 by Mr. Baiju Mohan (Head Project Business Process Transformation – Marico Limited) for the semester 6 students of MMM,MFM and MHRDM , batch 2011-14, on the topic of Value Chain and Supply Chain Distribution Logistics of Marico Limited.The same was organized for the subject of strategic management.


Digital Marketing

In The era of technology, the field of Marketing has coined a new branch called as Digital Marketing which is basically the promotion of products or brands via one or more forms of electronic media. Digital marketing differs from traditional marketing in that it involves the use of channels and methods that enable an organization to analyze marketing campaigns and understand what is working in real time.

Keeping in mind the importance of Digital Marketing the Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies has taken timely and future focused decision to extend additional support on the subject of Digital Marketing by offering a certification course “DMM 101”from Digital Marketing Training Institute which will give an exposure to its students to the world of Digital Media Marketing.

The lectures for the same for MMM Sem III (2012-15 batch) is been conducted by Mr. Gautam Ram Pingali, Director – Digital Improvisation at Starcom Mediavest Group one of the world’s largest and most celebrated brand communications and consumer contact organization.


A guest lecture for the subject of Introduction to Computers

A guest lecture for the subject of Introduction to Computers was organized for MMM and MHRDM semester 3 (2012-15 batch) students on Sunday 28/7/2013 from 10-1pm. The resource person was Mr. Vivek Gokhade (Industry Manager - Intel Technology India Pvt. Ltd) and covered the following topics -

History of internet, Access Technologies, Operating Systems, Application Software, Business models based on Internet – (B2B, B2C , G2B and G2C), Database and Internet impact in India. The floor was then open for Question and answer session. The sessionreceived an overwhelming feedback from the students.


Guest Lecture for MMM , MFM& MHRDM students.

A Guest lecture was organized by S.G.P.C’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies on “Labour Laws and Its Practical Aspects” on Sunday, 7th April 2013 from 10.00 am-3.30 pm. It was arranged by Asst. Prof.Channpreet Kaur Bhatia (Human Resource) for the First Year MMM , MFM& MHRDM students.

Dr. A. M. Sarma (Faculty-Tata Institute of Social Sciences) was the guest speaker for the event. The speaker touched upon brief history of Labor Laws, followed by practice exercise. The floor was then open for Question and answer session. The session received an overwhelming feedback from the students.


Induction Program for the Part Time Batch 2013-16

Dr.Amarpreet Singh Ghura, Associate Professor and Academic Coordinator at S.G.P.C’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) had organized an induction programme to welcome the Part Time students of (MMM, MFM, MHRDM) 2013-2016 Batch on 03rd July 2013. The dignitaries present for the event were Dr. Ajit Singh (Director General – GNIMS and Addl Sec. LMC), Dr. H.S. Cheema (CEO & Dean, Institute for Future Education, Entrepreneurship & Leadership) and Mr. Ravindra Das (Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Alumnus of GNIMS MFM 2010-13).

The programme began with the traditional prayer song of GNIMS. This was followed by the introduction and felicitation of the dignitaries. The audience was first addressed by Mr. Ravindra Das who shared his experience as an ex-student of GNIMS. Dr. Ajit Singh in his addressal spoke about the continued exchange of knowledge and information between faculties and students. Dr. H.S. Cheema conducted a session on Motivation for the new students to stimulate them towards completion of the three year part time course. On behalf of GNIMS family we wish the new batch all the best for endeavoring their Masters programme in Management.

S.G.P.C’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) organized a farewell programme for the Part Time students of (MMM, MFM, MHRDM) 2010-2013 Batch on 12th April 2013. The dignitaries present for the event were Dr. Ajit Singh (Director General – GNIMS and Addl Sec. LMC) and Dr. N. Shani (Head Academics – GNIMS). The programme began with the traditional prayer song of GNIMS. This was followed by the felicitation of the dignitaries. The audience was addressed Dr. Ajit Singh, Dr. N. Shani and Dr. Amarpreet Singh (Part Time Co-ordinator). All of them in their respective addressals to the audience spoke about the importance of Part Time students in GNIMS and how can a continued relationship be formed between the Part Time students passing out and the institute. Some students from this batch were also called to share their experience of being with GNIMS as a part time student for three years. The topper students of 2009-2012 MMM/MFM/MHRDM batch were also felicitated at this event. On behalf of GNIMS family we thank this batch for being a part of the institute and wish them all the best for their future endeavors.

A young, dynamic business person Mr. Jai Shroff, Executive director, United Phosphorus Ltd. and our very own Dr. R.T. Sane Director Guru Nanak Institute of Research and Development, (GNIRD) graced the occasion with their presence. It was wonderful for our passing batch to hear the wise words from two very eminent personalities from the corporate and academic world.


Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Walk Held - DNA Correspondent

Students, faculty members and staff of Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) in Matunga jointly organised a walk with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) on Sunday to create awareness about Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The students have taken up MS awareness as one of their social missions in the present academic year. MS is a disease of the central nervous system which affects its functioning, unexpectedly resulting in devastating disabilities in young people in the prime of their lives. It has various symptoms from minor visual disturbances to total paralysis.

The walk commenced at 7.30am and continued till 11am, covering the Dadar and Matunga areas. The students had recently also volunteered for an MS camp organised at Shushrusha Hospital in Dadar.

Dr Ajit Singh, secretary, local management committee of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) to which GNIMS belongs, encouraged the students and faculty to take u p social responsibilities as one of their main tasks. Dr Vidya Hattangadi, director, GNIMS, said that organisations do not exist in vacuum; they need to recognise social factors and help them to grow.

Anita Vesuvala, honourary secretary, and Sheela Chitnis, vice-president of MSSI, said that they need more youngsters to join them in creating MS awareness in society.

Masters of Supply Chain Management – Mumbai Dabbawalla’s

SGPC’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies (GNIMS) organized a seminar in association with Higher Education Forum (HEF) on the topic of how the Mumbai Dabbawalla’s have mastered the art of supply chain management on 11th February 2012.

The seminar opened with the address of Dr. A. K. Sengupta – the founder member of Higher Education Forum. Dr. Sengupta in his address to the students and faculties emphasized on practical approaches in the class rooms while implementing the curriculum. He also said that the syllabus needs regular upgradation.

Dr. Pawan Agrawal a PhD on the topic of “A study of Logistics and Supply chain Management on Dabbawalla’s in Mumbai” mesmerized the audience with his zealous and witty presentation on the subject. Dr. Agrawal has given presentations in Paris, Netherlands, USA etc.

The Forbes Global has made the Mumbai Dabbawalla’s global figures. The Dabbawallas seem to have made a mark for themselves in the Management curriculum in some of the global B Schools in the Supply Chain Management. One of the astonishing facts of the Dabbawalla’s is their accuracy in supplying dabba’s all over Mumbai within the recorded time. The dabbawallas do their jobs with passion, honest and punctuality with a high level commitment and selflessness.

Dr. Agrawal enthused the students by touching upon the qualities and values exhibited by the dabbawalla’s, which the future managers should emulate.

"Add On to the Curriculum"

In The era of computer technology and research it has become necessary to understand & familiarize with various methods of deriving conclusions from large amount of statistical data with the help of universally accepted computer software.

Indian companies are at different levels of data maturity, some companies are struggling to visualize their data while others are using predictive models and real time analytics to derive their decisions. Agile analytics and campaign management tools used by new generation analytics companies have made analytics as need of the hour. Keeping in mind such a demand in various fields like management, social, physical and financial sectors, the Institute has extended additional support on the subject of SPSS which is conducted in the computer lab.

The institute has taken this initiative in order to improve the project analysis skills which will benefit the students of MMM, MFM and MHRDM semester 4 (Batch 2011-14 and Batch 2012-15) in their career and the dissertation in semester 5.
